Why RAN Supports Her

Nanette Barragan served as the first Latina ever elected to the Hermosa Beach (CA) City Council and currently works with one of Los Angeles’s largest and most prominent children’s advocacy organizations to provide free legal services. As a councilmember, Nanette led a successful measure to prevent oil companies from drill within 150 feet of residents’ homes and out into the Santa Monica Bay; passed a motion for Hermosa Beach municipality to go carbon neutral by 2020; and, enacted a city-wide plastic bag ban. Prior to City Council, she has served in the White House and worked at the NAACP. In Congress, she has committed to growing cleaner and greener industries, promoting public health, and addressing environmental injustice.

About the Race

On November 8, 2016 Nanette Barragan was elected to California’s 44th Congressional District in an open seat vacated by Janice Hahn.
