Senator Patty Murray of Washington State sat down with Rachel’s Action Network members at a breakfast on March 16 highlighting the integral role of women in Congress.
Senator Murray spoke about the strong relationships she has with her female colleagues in the Senate. She discussed the many instances when the women in the Senate put partisan differences aside to create agreements in a sometimes contentious Congress.
Senator Murray told a heartfelt personal story of a local environmental problem that involved her in the political process as a citizen and mother, long before she was elected to the US Senate in 1992. She emphasized the importance of encouraging women to be politically active – either by running for office or by participating in political organizations. She concluded by sharing her passion for electing more women to federal office.
It was an inspiring and empowering morning!
